Comparing to Regulatory Standards

Comparing to Regulatory Standards

For a given constituent-media-fraction triplet (i.e. TCE, dissolved, in groundwater), EnviroInsite allows for comparison to any number of regulatory standards.  Being outside of a regulatory standard may occur for both exceedances of the standard value or for measured values less than some particular standard.  EnviroInsite also allows users to specify whether they wish to have reported values that are equivalent to regulatory standard values as also being in violation of those standards.  This option is specified in the Document tab of the plan view options dialog.

If you are using the EQuIS database, you need to be careful with using the ">= standard value" option in the case where you are reliant on conversion of concentration units.  Since the results are stored in binary, there is some loss of precision that may cause two equivalent values to not be represented as equivalent.  That is, for example 0.1 mg/L when converted to ug/L, may not be represented as equivalent to a value that is entered as 100 ug/L.  For this reason, we recommend that whereever possible all concentrations of particular analytes and media be stored in the same concentration units as the regulatory standards against which they will be compared.
