Development News…

Time Line

We’ve introduced a time line to allow you to select a date range and automatically apply it to plotted objects.  Click on the date range you like. Then click the update button and the plotted objects redraw — like magic!
Click here to see the time-line feature in action.

Animate your Data

The new animation feature works hand-in-hand with the Time Line to create a single file containing images corresponding to a sequence of  date ranges.    Click the Animate button in the Time-Line window and the file is automatically generated.
Click here to see how it’s done.

Plot Model Layer Data

The Region of Waterloo was looking for a way to leverage their extensive hydrogeologic modeling, by combining it with visual displays of well, water quality, and soil data stored in their expanding EarthSoft EQuIS database. We responded with a new feature developed on their behalf that allows them to plot FEFLOW-modeled layers on EI x-sections.

USGS Web Map Servers

The USGS pulled a fast one in modifying the url addresses of their popular web map servers; although the server content doesn’t seem to have changed that much.  Here’s a link to the announcement.  On loading of an EnviroInsite document that references one of the now defunct urls, EnviroInsite automatically selects a server and loads the new url.

PDF – vector or bitmap?

There’s more to PDF files than you think.  EnviroInsite gives you the option of exporting to a PDF “as bitmap” or in the default vector format.  If you export “as bitmap” you’ll get a nearly identical representation of what you see on the screen.  The downside is that text may end up rasterized and you lose the layer control in PDF Acrobat. If you opt for “as bitmap” make sure to select a high enough resolution for your objective — 300 dpi’s a good starting point.

Our Story

Originally written in 2002 as a tool for internal use at HydroAnalysis, the reaction of clients and other consultants made it clear that there was a need for a comprehensive and affordable data analysis tool tuned to the needs of environmental scientists and engineers working on hydrogeologic projects. Driven by continued internal use and testing and feedback from clients, the EnviroInsite feature set has grown rapidly as we continue to follow technical trends to make the program available to more people and easier to use than ever.

Thank you for your continued interest in EnviroInsite. Please send us a note if you would like more information on how EnviroInsite might be used at your office or have ideas for ongoing development.

Why EnviroInsite?

Piper diagrams, Stiff diagrams, and Schoeller diagrams enable you to analyze geochemistry. Fence diagrams, strip logs, and geologic modeling enable understanding of the hydrogeologic setting. Beyond that, georeferenced radial diagrams, Stiff diagram, pie charts, 3d surfaces, and particle tracking afford you tools to better understand the complex spatial and temporal relationships in your environmental data.

Tired of waiting for GIS staff to process your request? It's time to take control! EnviroInsite's expansive feature set leverages the power of the database to analyze your data in ways that would not be practical when divided between a handful of disparate applications.

The true power of EnviroInsite comes when staff work together using a single core application. Imagine for instance creating a document with multiple word processing applications or when only specially trained staff have access. That's standard operating procedure in analysis and visualization of environmental data. EnviroInsite provides the means to put that approach behind us.
